Danyluk dangles as Raiders own Chiefs 4-1

Feb 20, 2014 | 12:25 AM

Dakota Conroy and Shane Danyluk scored two goals each while Cole Cheveldave turned in a 36-save gem as the Prince Albert Raiders beat the Chiefs 4-1 in Spokane.

Cheveldave made 16 of those saves in the first period. One of his two breakaway stops came off the league's top goal man Mitch Holmberg.

The goaltender's duel with former Raider and Chiefs starter Eric Williams ended in the second period when the Raiders fired three unanswered goals. Dakota Conroy snapped a low shot inside the post stick side from close range to open the scoring at 9:32 of the middle frame before Danyluk broke the game open.

The 19-year-old assistant captain blew past the Chiefs defense and beat Williams with a sneaky backhand to the far post at 13:29 and ripped a wrister short side on a 2-on-1 break just over three minutes later.

After Keannu Yamamoto beat Cheveldave high short side about five and a half minutes into the third period Cheveldave closed the door on the Chiefs comeback with a big save off Holmberg from the slot during a Spokane power play.

The Raider defence kept the Chiefs at bay until Conroy caught Williams breaking for the bench for a sixth attacker after the Chiefs turned over the puck at the Prince Albert blue line. He hit the open net from just inside centre at 17:29 with his 24th goal of the season putting the game away for a Prince Albert team who has now won three in a row on the road.

The Raiders ended the night 1/6 on the power play and killed off all five Spokane advantages keeping 51 goal man Holmberg and Mike Aviani who has 32 goals off the scoresheet.

Williams would give up three goals on 26 shots.

Leon Draisaitl picked up an assist on Conroy's power play goal in the second period to extend his points streak to seven games, while Sawyer Lange's points streak came to an end at seven.

The Raiders who continue the road trip Friday night in Tri City, have moved into a tie with Red Deer for the final Eastern playoff spot while holding a game in hand.

All Raider games are broadcast on 900 CKBI.
