Baby born in foyer of Saskatoon provincial courthouse

Jan 14, 2011 | 6:04 AM

There was a special delivery at Saskatoon's provincial courthouse Thursday afternoon, and some quick-thinking deputy sheriffs were on the receiving end.

At about 3 p.m. a 25-year-old woman suddenly went into labour in the foyer of the courthouse. 911 was called, but this baby boy wasn't waiting for paramedics.

“Less than four minutes took place from the time that the water broke to the time that the baby was delivered,” said Troy Davies with MD Ambulance. “The deputy sheriffs who were there noticed that there was a problem and intervened right away, and realized that mom was going to give birth right there.”

The paramedics arrived in time to cut the umbilical cord and took the woman and her newborn to hospital.
