Saskatchewan 1st among Canadian provinces for mining: Fraser Institute

Feb 24, 2015 | 12:14 PM

Saskatchewan is the belle of the ball when it comes to mining operations, according to The Fraser Institute.

Its recent mining survey of 122 jurisdictions around the world found that Saskatchewan is the most-popular place in Canada for mining operations, and the second-most-popular place in the world for mining operations behind Finland.

The survey said it’s because of Saskatchewan’s abundance of minerals, and provincial government’s approach to mining practices.

“The province offers a competitive taxation regime, good scientific support, efficient permitting procedures and clarity around land claims. That’s what miners look for,” Kenneth Green, the Fraser Institute’s senior director of energy and natural resources and director of the Survey of Mining Companies, said in a statement.
